“In Rajasthan, a woman’s role in her family and society, as demanded by society, is to maintain honor—that is, don’t go outside, don’t do this, don’t do that. Keep your honor covered, meaning keep yourself covered. All of this happens.”

- Monica Jod

Sambhali Trust is an NGO dedicated to empowering Rajasthani people, by providing education, support, and opportunities for growth. It is beautiful to see the tools these women are gaining to break the barriers society constantly places before them.

Sewing as an opportunity to work from home…

“Here, most women are educated, but they are not allowed by their families to go out and work or earn for themselves. Their role is limited to staying at home, doing household chores, and, at most, engaging in some work from home, like sewing or similar activities.”

Anju Sharma - Teacher at Sambhali's empowerment center

Often seen only as a mother or a wife, she quietly works to step out from the shadow of societal expectations and find her own identity, out of the veil of silence.
